The Enshittification of Life
Everything is … not good. In fact, they’re getting actively worse. Cory Doctorwin coined the phrase “enshittification” when talking about the degradation of the internet. First platforms are good to users, then they abuse users in favor or business and capitalism, and they abuse the business customers to regain their value - and all of this leads to the platforms becoming unusable. The entire internet has been “enshittified”. Speaking as an American under end-stage capitlism; life itself has been enshittified. And I’m tired of it.
I go back and forth with my relationship with the internet and how I want to show up on it. A lot of this frustration is because the internet has just become completely unusable and is completely rigged against the people now. Have you tried to Google anything lately? It’s absolutely awful. Facebook and Instagram? Useless. One of my exes reported my accounts and everything I post is wildly suppressed. TikTok? Broken. Twitter? Not even going there.
I just want to be able to talk about fashion and music and TTRPGs and other weird things in a completely unhinged fashion for my friends and anyone else who’s interested. So, I re-did the layout of my blog and I started a substack. I’m not sure exactly how I want this to work or what it’s going to end up as - but, the plan is to update this semi-regularly about … well, whatever I want to talk about. For paid users - I’ll probably give you some hidden updates about the book I’m writing, or TTRPG campaigns I’m working on, or other special updates. I’ll figure it out.
I hope you choose to hang out.
